Happy Holiday Season

Our Gift to You

This month's newsletter is focusing on technology tips.  We realize our users are amazing at working with families and students, and technology may not be high on the list of priorities.  These tips can be helpful for SEEDS, but can also help with technology hiccups for other web-based programs.

Tech Tip #1 - Stuck Screen

Sometimes after a system update, your computer may rely on cached data that interferes with the update taking effect. When this happens, you might see a blank screen or a “spinning” icon that never resolves.

Before submitting a help ticket, try the following quick fixes:

  1. Perform a hard refresh. Ctrl+Shift+R (PC) or Command+Shift=R (Mac)
  2. Clear your browser history/cache.

If the issue continues, try these additional options:

  1. Try opening SEEDS in another browser.
  2. Open the system in an incognito/private window.
  3. Test the system on another computer.
  4. Check with colleagues to see if they're experiencing the same issue.

These steps may not fully resolve the problem, but they provide valuable information for the Help Center and may help you find a temporary workaround until the issue is fixed.

Tech Tip #2 - Screen Flicker

Do you ever see your screen flicker while working in SEEDS or any other web-based programs?  If you're using a Dell device, it may be related to an outdated graphics driver.  Dell recently released an update that addresses several critical graphics problems. Try running Dell Command Update by searching for it in your Start menu. If you don’t see it or are unsure how to proceed, check with your district IT staff so they can help ensure the update is installed.

Tech Tip #3 - Microscopic Words in Print

Super tiny print is often caused by hidden formatting that gets carried over when text is pasted into a field. A helpful clue is the appearance of specific words at the bottom of the text box—most commonly the word “span.” When you see this, it usually means unwanted formatting is embedded in the text.

To fix it, try the following steps:

  1. Copy the text from the affected text box.

  2. Paste it as plain text into a Google Doc or Word document.

  3. Delete the original text from the SEEDS text box.

  4. Copy the cleaned text from your document.

  5. Paste it back into SEEDS as plain text (Ctrl/Shift/v).

After completing these steps, the word “span” should no longer appear, and the text should display correctly.

WISE Data

WISE Updates for December

Reminder - Snapshot is Dec. 9 at 9:00am

Here are some quick tips for the upcoming snapshot:

  • Make any necessary changes by end of this week. Updates made too close to the snapshot may not be captured.
  • SEEDS does not do mass updates and does not shut down for snapshot processing.
  • Use the new and improved WISEdata Comparison Report to identify potential errors in SEEDS, and review WISE errors in the WISE portal to ensure everything is aligned.

Visit the Help Center or DPI's Snapshot Prep Guide for more assistance.

Attitude of Gratitude

Spread the Gratitude!

With the holiday season upon us, I wanted to remind everyone of the incredible impact your words can have. This month, let’s embrace an attitude of gratitude and let the people around us know the difference they make in our lives.

Start small—a simple note is all it takes. Kim loves a good post-it. Take a moment to jot down a few kind, thankful words on a sticky note and share it with someone who brings a little extra goodness to your day.

Need a sentence starter?

  • I am thankful to you for...
  • I appreciate you because...
  • When you...I was able to....  Thank you.
  • I sincerely appreciate your....

Have fun spreading gratitude!
